I was speaking with a friend today about the degree and intensity with which “religious” leaders use: shame, guilt and fear to control the members of their congregations.  Christians can become conditioned to believe that shame, guilt, and fear are normal everyday feelings that must be experienced and actually CARRIED.  We carry these feelings and they are overwhelmingly weighty on our hearts and souls.  How many Christians do you know who are weighted down with this unholy trinity of:  shame, guild and fear?  There are too many Christians to count.

What are we to do?

Honestly, there are many things a Christian can do to put off this incredibly HEAVY YOKE of shame, guilt, and fear:

  • Start by knowing the character of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit – Is it truly in God’s character to use shame, guilt, and fear to control or manage his children?  Or is it more scripturally correct to believe that, “It is the kindness of God that leads to repentance?”  God may use shame, but His motive it to show us that we have limitations.  We are not God; we are human beings and we will consistently sin because a “principle of sin indwells us.”  This sin nature we contend with will only be quashed and eradicated from our bodies when we die and see Jesus face to face in heaven with our new heavenly bodies and we are 100% healed.
  • When we feel guilt, we must embrace that God uses feelings of guilt in hopes that we will simply confess our sins to Him or another trusted human-confessor and then repent of our sinful thoughts or deeds.  By confessing and repenting, God promises to cleanse us from ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.
  • We can learn that it is Satan who uses F.E.A.R (False Expectations Appearing Real) to influence us to see God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit in very bad ways.  Satan wants to confuse us about who our enemy is.  This is the oldest trick in Satan’s bag of tricks.  Read Genesis 3 – “Did God really say that you could not eat or touch the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil?”  Satan wants us to believe that God is the bad guy and that God is withholding good from us.  How many Christians have you heard say, “Why is God doing this to me?”  That is a sure sign that we do not authentically know the character of God, who is good, always good, and can never be anything but good, or He doesn’t exist (a Murphy-ism).The

The Bible is very clear.  When we are walking in the Godly light and scriptural truth, we will be bearing the “yoke of Jesus Christ,” which is easy and light.  As children of God, God’s wrath has been assuaged.  There is therefore NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  We are free from shame, guilt and fear because we are born-again through the death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus.  He paid it all.  We are free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we are free at last.

Peace to you all.
