Never, never, never give up.

Never Give Up

During the 2008 national elections, history was made.  The Democratic party nominated an educated, eloquent, visionary to vie for the office of President of the United States, Senator Barach Obama.  The Republican party nominated the first woman candidate for the office of Vice-President of the United States. Governor Palin is an attractive, bright, plain-speaking, self-proclaimed "maverack" from the beautiful state of Alaska.  Both nominations were "firsts" in their own right.

The election was exciting, intense, and arduous.  It was a well-fought battle between two opposing views; views about specific problems and the potential solutions to those problems.  As we all know, on November 4th, the American people made their choice for President.

As one born in 1952, I remember specific elements of segregation in southwest Louisiana.  I remember a water fountain and a bathroom both of which had signs saying, "For whites only!"  I remember school segregation and eventual integration.  I remember inspiring speeches from John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  I also remember speeches given by those who refused to cooperate or accept change.

Regardless of the past, today we are in a new place in American history.  All of the work done by Christian men and women to gain equality, respect, and opportunity for all has come to fruition.  God empowered His people to have the attitude, the mind-set, to never give up.  People who operate in their own strength can not muster this kind of determination.  God is our only Source of unshakable determination.  Let us praise Him for all His blessings and endowments.
