I Give You My Word

Most of us don’t relish dealing with hassles created by someone and their lack of integrity. When someone makes a promise, we want to believe in his or her fortitude and faithfulness. We want to believe they will keep their word. Life, however, has taught us that the days of “a man’s word is his bond” are long gone. For many people, integrity is a thing of the past. Even Christians struggle with watered-down values and weakened integrity.

What would keeping one’s word look like in everyday life? It would require keeping your promises and your covenants. It would mean that when you get married, your intention is to stay married, even when things get tough (and they will!) You would be determined to work through things; through the good and the bad, the thick and the thin, in sickness and in health.  It would mean that relationships are important to you and because of their importance; you are committed to enjoying them, maintaining them, and enhancing them.

It would be wonderful for Christians to recommit themselves to the values and the integrity of Jesus Christ. It would be astonishing for Christians to become men and women who keep their promises and uphold their commitments. It would be great if Christians were to give and keep their “words of honor.”

Do you make careless promises? Do you think before you commit to something or someone? Please ask the Father to give you the inner strength to not only make commitments, but to keep them. Surely this would showcase His glory.
