He Draws You
John 6:44 – “No one can come to Me (Jesus) unless the Father
Who sent Me draws him: and I will raise him up on the last day.”
Have you ever considered that the only reason why you are a believer in Jesus Christ is because the Father actually drew you to Jesus in the first place?
I don’t think we completely realize this. Most of us think of it this way: we heard the “Good News” of the Gospel and we choose to respond to the “alter call.” However, according to this verse, no one comes to Jesus unless the Father draws that person to Jesus. Some of us assume that our awareness of our need for Jesus originated with us and therefore, we took appropriate action. We believe that “WE” made that decision. “WE” chose our spiritual pathway. In our pride, we think every aspect of our spiritual journey is in our hands and up to us. Do you ever think like this?
The thing that caught my attention about this verse was how powerfully it stated that “NO ONE CAN COME TO (JESUS) UNLESS THE FATHER … DRAWS HIM.” It seems fairly straight-forward. We don’t approach Jesus unless God draws us to Him. We don’t come to Him; we don’t respond to Him because of our own initiative. We respond to God’s drawing.
Isn’t God good? (The answer to that question is unequivocally, “yes.”) God, in His beneficence, knows that “no one is good, no not even one … no one seeks after God … no not even one” (Romans 3). Knowing that by nature we will not seek after God on our own, He takes the initiative and draws us to Jesus. He draws us to Himself. This is the epitome of a gracious, heavenly Father; a kind, generous, and wonderfully loving God.
What does God’s drawing look like in your life? Does He draw you to church? Does He draw you to certain people or certain books? Does He draw you by illuminating a passage of Scripture?
Remember, if you are close to God right now, it is because God has drawn you to Himself. Look for how He routinely does that in your life. Pay attention! And when you realize that God is drawing you to Himself or to the Lord, quietly thank Him for doing so. Be appreciative.
