God’s perspectives on life, marriage, and parenting are what best-selling books are made of. His perspectives provide us with two necessary things, both of which supersede anything the world can offer. God wants you and I to have: His power (i.e., strength and ability) and His vision (i.e., understanding and perspective.)
Without God’s power, the only power at our disposal is human power. Compared to His, human power is puny and limited. The power of His indwelling Spirit is the same power He used to raise Christ from the dead. It is supernatural power and not of this world. It never dwindles; it can never be depleted. The Holy Spirit enables us to do the impossible like: loving our enemies and praying for those who persecute us.
Possessing Godly vision is equally important. When we see life, people, circumstances, and even the future with God’s eyes, we see everything as He sees it. His divine perspective becomes the backdrop for us and it presents a context for every situation, concern, fear, or whatever. His perspective creates a concrete foundation, upon which we stand, that is immovable, unshakable, and indestructible. It calms us and steadies us, even in the midst of a crisis. A word picture for human vision is “the blind leading the blind.” Human vision is limited and compromised.
It is obvious when one lives using Godly power and Godly vision. Such a person responds to unexpected situations, instead of reacting to them. Living with Godly power and vision enables a person to keep their fear in check. Godly power and vision helps them to operate with Godly wisdom and restraint. They feel assured that God will show them what to do and then give them the strength to carry it out. They believe that nothing is too big for Him. They are able to remain calm and settled during the storms of everyday life.
How do you usually act? Do you tend to react or respond? If you react, is it usually because you are afraid of something? What is your biggest fear? Are you afraid of feeling like a fool or being criticized? Are you fearful because you feel overwhelmed and ill-equipped to handle situations? If you’ve walked with God long enough, you’ve probably learned how to respond to life as He would. You know that whatever happens, God will help you get through it. You are able to release your fear and keep your wits about you when trials emerge.
