Anne Hays
Counselor Intern
|
Counselor I joined Murphy and the other counselors on staff in January 10, 2008 as a Clinical Intern. I graduated from LSU on May 16, 2008 and the LPC Board approved my status as a Counselor Intern (which means I am working toward becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor.)
My journey toward becoming a counselor began in May 2005 when I sensed the Lord directing me to Graduate School for additional training to better equip me for ministry. I am convinced the issues believers bring from their family of origin and the ways they seek to make life work in their own strength often short-circuit their sincere attempts to walk with Christ. Personally, I have found the services of trained counselors helpful as I worked through stuck points in my marriage and family life.
My heart for counseling entails couples counseling, family counseling, working with adolescents, and individual counseling issues such as depression/anxiety, communication, identity in Christ, and career issues.
I’ve been the wife of a Dallas Theological Seminary student who later became the pastor of a small Baptist church in an Atlanta suburb. I have served as Area Secretary for the Baton Rouge Young Life, an organization committed to loving lost high school kids to Christ in local high schools. I am also a committed volunteer in Women’s Ministry at The Chapel on the Campus.
I have discovered while there are many biblical admonitions about how to live life on earth, the Bible also speaks of the difficulties we encounter in life and how He uses these events to change us. The Lord has done a deep work in my own family through struggles with our kids. I’m very thankful for a husband who loves Christ and is committed to Him and our family.
God consistently uses the fellowship of women to move me to want to grown in Christ-likeness. I am very interested in authenticity in the Christian life. If we, as believers, can’t share pain, sorrow and joy with each other, then we’ll lose so much of what He intended faith community to offer. I’m deeply committed to walking with the Lord in Spirit and Truth, which usually means very humbly.

Family I have been married to Clayton for 24 years. We have three children, David (22), Abby (19) and Mary Kate (15). Plus we have an amazing granddaughter, Samantha (16 mos.)! My family is the arena where I learn the most about myself. I am frequently very challenged to live out what I say I believe…in the midst of these five people.
My Theology I am increasingly aware of my need for Christ. I am discovering the mystery a walk with Him entails. At age 47 my life is not what I had envisioned in the late 80’s when my husband was in seminary. Then I pictured everything in my life running smoothly and successfully as a result of my effort to be diligent and choose the right things to do.
Christian I received Christ at age 12 through the ministry of my family’s Baptist church in Birmingham, AL. I had a thirst for the Lord but my real spiritual growth was fostered through the ministries of Young Life in high school and Campus Crusade for Christ at the University of Alabama. During college I made a decision to follow Christ anywhere and felt called to go on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ upon graduation in 1984. It didn’t hurt that my fiancé—Clayton Hays—was already on staff! Thus began my circuitous journey with Christ!
