Onnie Beaud Perdue

Counselor: I am a Christian counselor by title and function. By building a trusting environment and Christian worldview, I can partner with clients to address their specific concerns. I define counseling as a process in which the client and counselor explore alternatives to the presenting issues and then, work together to foster an optimal sense of well-being for the client. This is done by examining the unproductive patterns of thought, behavior, mood and relationships, and work dynamics. The client and counselor work together to construct more productive responses to every pertinent situation, event, and circumstance. God desires every person to live an abundant life, no matter what discouragement we may be experiencing. In counseling, my prayer is that God would use me to help people work towards their fullest potential, that they might glorify God as they strive to understand His purposes for them.

I earned a Masters Degree in Counseling from Louisiana State University. I am a Counselor Intern registered with the LPC Board of Examiners. I am also certified as a School Counselor with the Louisiana Department of Education. Working with teens on a consistent basis as a high school teacher and college counselor, I’m acquainted with the challenges and uncertainties that accompany adolescence. Because of specific life experiences, I also have a special desire to assist young women, married and single, as they transition through the many life roles and responsibilities associated with various life stages. This includes, but is not limited to, a special interest in depression and anxiety disorders, maladaptive behaviors and cognitions, and trauma recovery. As a college counselor, I specialized in the area of college placement. I thoroughly enjoy aiding high school and college students get through the strenuous process of choosing a college/major and making career decisions.

Personal Background: I have walked closely with the Lord for over 10 years. However, I can easily trace His abundant grace and presence in my life as far back as I can remember. Upon entering college, I found myself profoundly affected by a personal relationship with Jesus. Since that time, I believe that God has slowly grown me in spiritual maturity through the amazing power of the Holy Spirit working in and through me (and with the help of lots of God ordained mentors along the way!). It is amazing as I think back on those mentors and see that one such person was Murphy Toerner nearly 6 years ago! I feel very blessed to be able to look back and see God’s hand in almost every aspect of my Christian walk. At times the journey was marked with pain and confusion, but his faithfulness and goodness alone account for my ability to now say, “In all things, God be praised!” The Lord has filled me with joy and blessed me unimaginably. I have a wonderful husband, Charlie, who has remained a steady source of strength and encouragement. We are blessed with two beautiful children Evie, 4, and Luke, 1.
